Top Rummy: Thirteen Cards, Then Fourteen, Then Thirteen Again
Card count depends on the stage of a rummy turn. Follow one complete draw-and-discard example and seek Saraswati Maa's blessing for understanding the sequence of actions.
You count fourteen cards just after drawing. “Something is wrong,” you think. “This is thirteen-card rummy.”
Before correcting the count, identify the moment. The number thirteen describes the usual hand between turns; drawing temporarily adds a card before the discard. Top Rummy readers can bring that relation between number and stage to Saraswati Maa, seeking understanding of the whole action.

Before the draw: thirteen
Use this teaching hand, with all cards in their natural roles:
4♣, 5♣, 6♣; 8♠, 9♠, 10♠; K♠, K♥, K♦; 7♥, 8♥, 9♥; 2♦.
There are four groups of three and one separate card, making thirteen. The club and spade runs are complete, the kings form a set, and the hearts form another run. The separate diamond two has not been grouped.
The count is right for this point in the turn, but the hand is not yet a complete thirteen-card arrangement. A correct count and valid grouping are different checks.

After the draw: fourteen
Suppose the next card drawn is 10♥. Nothing has yet been discarded. The thirteen earlier cards remain, and this new card makes fourteen.
The heart run can now extend to 7♥–8♥–9♥–10♥. The separate 2♦ is still present. Seeing fourteen here is consistent with the draw having happened before the discard.
Taj Rummy's explanation of a turn places drawing and discarding in that order. The temporary count belongs to the interval between them.

After the discard: thirteen
Discard 2♦. The resulting groups are:
- 4♣, 5♣, 6♣
- 8♠, 9♠, 10♠
- K♠, K♥, K♦
- 7♥, 8♥, 9♥, 10♥
Three plus three plus three plus four makes thirteen. This time the remaining cards are all grouped: three pure sequences and a valid set.
One card entered and one left. The hand briefly held fourteen cards between the draw and the discard, then returned to thirteen.

Place the full sequence before Maa
At Saraswati Maa's offering area on Ishta Mel, take darshan and offer the displayed books, white flowers, fruits, kheer and deepak together.
ॐ ऐं सरस्वत्यै नमः
Saraswati Maa, accept my offering. Bless me with understanding of the order in which things happen. Let me ask which stage I am seeing before judging what belongs there, and let the complete action remain clear in my mind.
The prayer's focus is the connection between successive moments. “Fourteen” was neither a permanent new hand size nor automatically an error. It was the count after drawing and before discarding.
A Top Rummy reader can finish the explanation in three short phrases: thirteen before the draw, fourteen after the draw, thirteen after the discard. May Maa bless the understanding that puts each number in its proper moment.
