State the small job before giving a big verdict

In this teaching example, the players ask only whether J♣, J♦ and J♠ form a natural rummy set. They agree on the three cards and on using the ordinary different-suit condition. You have not been asked to judge the rest of the hand or decide who behaved better during the argument.

The answer to the entrusted question is clear: the rank matches and all three suits differ, so this group satisfies that set condition. Its validity alone does not establish a valid declaration for the entire hand.

“I can confirm this group,” you tell both players. “I would need to see the remaining cards before commenting on the whole hand.”

That is a useful boundary because it follows the evidence and the task. Your closer friendship does not supply cards you have not seen. Nor does a desire to appear neutral require you to deny the valid group in front of you.

The result of your small role should be reviewable by both people: these were the cards, this was the agreed condition, and this was the limited conclusion. Prayer supports your resolve to do the work; it does not replace the explanation with divine authority.
