Love Rummy: Your Friend Says the Hand Is Ready—Have You Checked It?

Trusting a friend's judgement and checking your own hand can go together. Follow one unfinished inspection and seek Saraswati Maa's gift of discernment.

“Yes, it's ready. Declare!” A friend may be trying to help, but the words arrive while you are still looking at the last group. In that moment, confidence in the friend can easily get mixed up with confidence in your own inspection.

Three statements can all be true

Your friend believes the whole hand is ready. You have personally checked the hearts, diamonds and queens. You have not yet checked the clubs.

The friend's conclusion may be correct. It still does not turn the final group into something you have examined. “One moment, I'm checking the clubs” gives an exact reason for the pause without accusing the friend of being careless.

This is a request for time to understand, rather than a contest over whose confidence is louder.

Finish the inspection that remains

The clubs have one suit and consecutive ranks, 5–6–7. They form another pure sequence. The first two groups are pure sequences too; the queens share a rank and have four different suits. There are thirteen cards in total, all assigned to valid groups.

Under the familiar thirteen-card conditions—at least two sequences, including one pure sequence—the arrangement is valid. A23 explains the sequence requirement, while Taj Rummy describes natural sets.

The result agrees with your friend. Your pause was useful even though it did not uncover an error: you can now explain the conclusion yourself.
