INDIA2026: The Same Chessboard Can Hide Different Castling Rights
Two identical teaching boards differ in one piece of history. Ask Saraswati Maa for the understanding to look beyond a current position when a rule requires more.
Two chess diagrams look identical. In each, White's king is on e1 and rook on h1; Black's only piece is a king on a8. All other squares are empty, and White is to move.
Can White castle on the king's side? For INDIA2026 readers, the honest answer is that the picture has not yet supplied every necessary fact.

Read the note beneath the first board
“Neither the white king nor the h1 rook has moved earlier in this game.”
The squares between king and rook are empty. The black king on a8 attacks none of e1, f1 or g1. With the stated movement history, White can castle: the king goes to g1 and the rook to f1.

Read the note beneath the second board
“The white king moved away from e1 earlier, then returned. The h1 rook has never moved.”
Everything visible is unchanged, but White has lost the right to castle. Moving the king back does not restore it. Article 3.8.2.1 of the FIDE Laws of Chess makes earlier king movement relevant to castling rights.
The empty path and safe squares answer some questions. They do not answer the historical one.

What should a careful explanation ask for?
“Has this king moved before?” is not an irrelevant request for extra detail. It asks for a fact the rule itself requires. A screenshot may be perfectly accurate while still being insufficient for this particular judgement.
Let the missing history give your request at Saraswati Maa's offering area its exact subject. Take darshan and offer the displayed books, white flowers, fruits, kheer and deepak together, asking for the wisdom to recognise what a current picture leaves unsaid.
Saraswati Maa, bless me with understanding that reaches beyond the first thing I can see. Help me ask for the history a rule requires and keep a missing fact from turning into a confident guess.

The two boards were never a contradiction. They showed the same arrangement with different histories. Once both histories are known, the different answers follow from the same rule. The lesson is not to distrust the picture; it is to know which question the picture can answer.
