IND Rummy: Hanuman Ji and the Strength to Honour a Rule When It Favours Your Opponent

A rule you accepted for yourself still applies when a friend benefits. Bring the wish for consistency in thought, word and action to Hanuman Ji on Ishta Mel.

“You can have another queen even if the original queen is still on the board.”

You explained that rule confidently when your pawn was about to promote. Your friend checked it, agreed, and play continued. Later the same condition arises for the other side. Now a second queen looks much less welcome.

IND Rummy readers can use this chess teaching comparison to bring a different kind of strength before Hanuman Ji: keeping the judgement you accepted when its benefit changes hands.

Two cases with the same permission

In the first case, your pawn legally reaches its promotion rank. Your original queen remains in play. You choose a new queen of your colour.

In the second case, your opponent's pawn legally reaches its promotion rank. Their original queen also remains in play. They choose a new queen of their colour.

FIDE's Laws of Chess, Articles 3.7.3.3 and 3.7.3.4, allow promotion to the specified pieces without restricting the choice to pieces previously captured. The continued presence of the original queen therefore does not prevent either promotion.

The player receiving the benefit has changed. The relevant rule condition has not.

Notice what the objection is really asking

“But you already have a queen” sounds like a rule objection. In this comparison, however, it is the very condition both players considered and accepted earlier.

The objection now asks the friend to lose a permission you retained for yourself. You may dislike the resulting position, but that feeling supplies no new rule.

This is not a question about agreeing politely with everything an opponent says. You have already checked the permission. The demand now is to apply that same understanding when it becomes inconvenient.

Ask for strength that keeps words and conduct together

The Hanuman Jayanti reflections of the Sri Sathya Sai International Organization honour Hanuman's devotion and the harmony of thought, word and action. That devotional ideal gives this small game situation a clear prayer.

At Hanuman Ji's offering area on Ishta Mel, take darshan and offer the displayed sindoor, ladoo, tulsi, ghee and deepak together.

ॐ हनुमते नमः

Hanuman Ji, please accept my offering. Give me strength to act by the understanding I have spoken. When the same rule favours another person, keep my conduct faithful to my words. Let the wish to win remain joined with the courage to play honestly.

The needed strength is not a louder defence of your own advantage. It is the steadiness to let an accepted condition remain accepted.

Return to the actual position

“Yes, that promotion is allowed; we checked the same point for mine.” This sentence ends the false dispute without requiring you to feel pleased about the new queen.

You can then face the position as it is and choose your legal reply. Attention returns to the game rather than an attempt to remove a permission from your opponent.

For the IND Rummy reader, the prayer reaches its practical place here: may Hanuman Ji grant the strength to recognise the same truth when it helps someone else.
