Dream55: The Card You Saw Later Was Not Information You Had Earlier

Use a two-moment card review to keep later knowledge out of an earlier decision. Ask Saraswati Maa for a clear and fair account of what happened.

The replay makes everything look obvious. You can see the card that was drawn and the disappointment that followed. “I should have known,” comes easily now. But the card was face down when the earlier decision was made.

For Dream55 readers, a prayer to Saraswati Maa can ask for more than a clever answer. It can ask for a fair understanding of time: what was available then, and what became available only afterwards?

The first record: before the draw

In this small practice example, the player has 4♣ and 6♣ among their cards and hopes to find 5♣. At 7:10, the top card of the closed pile has not been seen. The player chooses to draw from that pile.

Record only the fact relevant to our question: the identity of that top card was unknown. We have not supplied the whole hand or every alternative, so this short record cannot establish that drawing was the best possible choice.

The second record: after the draw

At 7:11, the drawn card is revealed as Q♥. It does not fill the gap between 4♣ and 6♣. The player now knows its identity and feels disappointed.

The later record can explain why the hoped-for completion did not happen. It cannot make Q♥ visible at 7:10. “The draw did not bring 5♣” is true. “I knew it could not bring 5♣” is a different statement and is not supported by this account.

Cover the second record and reread the first. If your criticism still depends on knowing Q♥ was underneath, you have brought later information into the earlier moment. If the criticism instead concerns a condition or alternative already known then, that deserves examination on its own evidence.

This method does not excuse every decision. It asks that the reason for judging it belong to the time when it was made.

Bring the two records, kept in their proper order, to mind before Saraswati Maa on Ishta Mel. The white flowers, books, fruits, kheer and deepak form the complete offering through which you can place this wish for a fair review before her.

ॐ ऐं सरस्वत्यै नमः

Maa Saraswati, grant me clear and just understanding as I revisit this game. Help me remember what I knew, admit what I missed and place later knowledge in its proper time. Let the lesson be true, rather than merely severe.

The review can end with an honest pair of sentences: “The card was unknown before the draw. Afterwards, I knew it was a queen.” Keeping that order makes room for learning without demanding that your earlier self had already watched the replay.
