Diwa King: Seeking Maa Durga's Protection When Defence Comes First
An attacking move looks tempting, but the king needs protection. A concrete chess example brings Durga's protective blessing into the decision before you.
When you call upon Maa Durga for strength, what does that strength ask you to protect?
The question matters at a game board. An attacking move may be the first one you notice. It promises movement, pressure and the pleasure of making your opponent respond. Yet your own position may need attention before any of that is possible.
In this Diwa King reflection, the prayer is to the Mother as protector. Her devotees seek courage under her shelter, including the courage to give an urgent defence its proper place.

A rook can attack, but the king is in check
Set up this small chess position with no other pieces. White has a king on e1, a bishop on b5 and a rook on h1. Black has a king on h8, a rook on e7 and a pawn on h7. It is White's turn.
The white rook seems to have an inviting move: take the pawn on h7 and attack Black's king. But Black's rook on e7 is already checking the white king down the open e-file.
Rook takes h7 would leave that check unanswered. It is illegal. The FIDE Laws of Chess, article 3.9.2, do not allow a player to leave their own king in check.
One legal response is bishop to e2. The bishop travels from b5 through c4 and d3 to e2, blocking the rook's line to the king. The game continues from a position in which the immediate check has been answered.
The difference is visible on the board: one idea looks forward to the opponent's difficulty; the other first deals with the threat already facing your king.

The Mother's protection belongs in this prayer
Durga's form is associated with power and the defeat of evil. The Durga Puja tradition honours her victory over Mahishasura. Devotees also approach her as the Mother whose shelter gives them courage.
In the position above, “Give me strength” can be followed by “Help me protect what is in danger.” The game has made the need specific. Your own king is exposed, and an attractive attack has drawn attention away from him.
There is dignity in making the protective move. You are still meeting the contest. You have recognised what must be guarded before the next stage can unfold. A devotee can place that act under Maa's protection and ask her to strengthen the resolve to carry it out.
“Maa, keep me alert to what needs my care. Let the urge to attack not make me abandon it.”

At Maa Durga's seat on Ishta Mel, take darshan before the displayed red flowers, fruits, coconut, bhog and deepak. The offering can carry a wish for protection suited to this particular moment of play.
Use the “Offer Naivedya” control for the group shown there. With the site's mantra, ॐ दुं दुर्गायै नमः — Om Dum Durgayai Namah — address the Mother whose shelter you seek:
Maa Durga, please accept my offering. Protect me as I meet this challenge. Give me the courage to guard what needs guarding and the strength to answer the danger before me. May I continue under your care. Jai Mata Di.
The prayer now includes the part of courage that the tempting attack had pushed aside. It asks the Mother for strength in an act of protection.

Follow the line back to your king
Return to the study and trace the black rook's line from e7 to e1. Then place the bishop on e2 and trace it again. The bishop interrupts the attack before it reaches the king.
That is all this move claims to achieve. The board will have further questions on Black's turn. For now, White has faced the immediate danger instead of moving as if it were absent.
For a Diwa King reader who turns to Durga for protection, this gives the offering a clear connection to play. The Mother is asked to grant courage, and that courage accompanies the decision to defend. Her protective blessing is sought at the place where something genuinely needs protecting.
